Lochlea Our Barley: A Review
Nestled in South Ayrshire, an area that is well known for its rich agricultural heritage, is the Lochlea distillery. Lochlea is located on a working farm ,with their barley grown on site and their water sourced from an on-site borehole.
Lochlea have been producing some fantastic drams of late. One of their recent whiskies is ‘Our Barley’, the first core single malt for the Lowlands based distillery.
Our Barley has matured in a combination of ex-bourbon and ex-Oloroso sherry casks, as well as STR (shaved, toasted and re-charred) casks.
Below is a review of ‘Our Barley’, an exciting whisky that showcases some real potential.
Nose:
On the nose, Our Barley opens with a notes of white wine. Lime and crisp apples greet the nose, followed by smooth undertones of ripe peach and pear. As you explore the whisky further, there is a subtle follow through of orange peel, with hints of ginger.
Palate:
The palate offers raisins and lemon zest. The journey continues with an enticing display of spices, with nutmeg and cinnamon. A touch of white pepper provides a cracking kick.
Finish:
The finish lingers on your mouth, leaving notes of cereal and grains. A subtle hint of vanilla comes through, which provides a smooth and creamy finish.
Overall we love this whisky, for only £39 this is a cracking dram that you need in your cabinet!
