WHISKY DISPLAY CASE WORTH ASTONISHING £138K!
You hear about rare whiskies selling for six or even seven figures, but how about a whisky DISPLAY CASE being worth £138,600!
We reported in October about a Macallan 1926 going to auction on November 18th for an estimated £1.2 million, well now we can report that the display case that was once home to one of these bottles was picked up on eBay for less than £200.
Fraser a 58-year old whisky lover was browsing eBay when he came across the case bearing a small plaque with 1926 inscribed on it. Having been a whisky collector and then branching our to a whisky memorabilia collector, he knew instantly what the case was for.
With bidding starting at £199, he closely watched the auction, and managed to pick it up for the starting price as the sole bidder. With last bottle of 1926 Macallan selling for £924,000, the display case has been valued at £138,600 by Mark Littler. It represents 15% of the last bottle sold as whiskies regularly sell for between 15-30% less than those with their original box.
