Glenfarclas 190: The Final Chapter in the Anniversary Trilogy

Glenfarclas has just released the whisky that closes out one of Speyside's most closely watched anniversary projects. Glenfarclas 190 marks 190 years of distilling at the family-owned Highland distillery, and it's the final release in the Anniversary Trilogy — following on from Glenfarclas 175 and Glenfarclas 185. What makes this one different

Most anniversary bottlings lean on a single standout cask or a headline age statement. Glenfarclas 190 does something more ambitious: it draws on spirit laid down across five separate decades, hand-selected from the distillery's own warehouses and married together into one whisky.

Distillery Manager Callum Fraser — named Scotland's Master Distiller of the Year at the 2026 Icons of Whisky Awards — worked alongside Managing Director Douglas Belford, a Master of the Quaich, to select the 78 casks that went into this release. Between them, they pulled fruitier notes from spirit laid down in the 1970s, rich sherried character from the 1980s and 90s, and toffee-caramel notes from casks filled in the 2000s.

The details

• Bottled at 51.4% ABV — formerly known as 90 British proof, the strength measure Glenfarclas used for the first 154 years of production. It's a deliberate nod to the distillery's own history, not just a cask-strength flex.
• Non-chill filtered, no added colouring — the whisky is presented as it comes out of the cask.
• Matured in sherry casks sourced from a family-run bodega in Jerez, Spain, and distilled using Glenfarclas's traditional direct-fired stills — a method most modern distilleries have long since abandoned.
• Limited to 15,000 bottles worldwide. This isn't a marketing figure dressed up as scarcity — it's a genuinely small release for a distillery of Glenfarclas's size, and it won't be reprinted once it's gone.
• Six generations of the Grant family have run Glenfarclas since it was first licensed in 1836, and this release is presented in packaging inspired by the distillery's labels through the decades — a small history lesson on the shelf as much as in the glass.
