Japanese Whisky

Japanese whisky is prized for its precision and balance, and the best-known bottles are now some of the most collectable in the world. Shop Suntory's Yamazaki and Hakushu single malts and the blended Hibiki range, alongside lesser-known names such as Togouchi and Yamazakura that offer a great way into the category.

Aged Japanese whisky is in short supply, so many releases arrive in small allocations and sell quickly. For the rarest bottles, see our fine and rare Japanese whisky; for gin and other spirits from Japan, browse all Japanese spirits.

Rated 4.9/5 on Trustpilot from 400+ reviews. Free next-day UK delivery on orders over £100, trade pricing for bars, restaurants and retailers, and a sourcing service if the bottle you want isn't listed.

Frequently asked questions

Why is Japanese whisky so hard to find?

Demand grew far faster than distilleries expected in the 2000s and 2010s. Whisky takes years to mature, so there's still a shortage of aged stock and many age-statement bottlings are allocated.

What counts as Japanese whisky?

Under the industry standard introduced in 2021, whisky labelled as Japanese whisky must be fermented, distilled, aged for at least three years and bottled in Japan, using Japanese water. Some older or blended products made with imported whisky do not meet it.

What's the difference between Yamazaki and Hibiki?

Yamazaki is a single malt from Suntory's Yamazaki distillery. Hibiki is a blend of malt and grain whiskies from Suntory's Yamazaki, Hakushu and Chita distilleries.

Is Japanese whisky a good gift?

Yes. Hibiki and Yamazaki are some of the most recognised and appreciated gift bottles we sell, and they come beautifully presented.
