L’Art de la Table: The Macallan “Distil Your World” Paris Edition
If London was about the grit and the curry spice, Paris is about the butter, the light, and the "Art of Living."
Released in April 2026, the fifth instalment of The Macallan’s Distil Your World series takes us to the Rive Gauche. Created once again in partnership with the Roca brothers, this edition is a liquid love letter to the French capital’s culinary soul.

The Concept: More Than a City, a Ritual
For this expression, Macallan’s Master Whisky Maker Kirsteen Campbell and the Rocas focused on the concept of L’Art de la Table (the art of the table). They didn't just want to capture the flavour of food; they wanted to bottle the atmosphere of a Parisian dinner—the conversation, the etiquette, the flickering candlelight, and the legendary hospitality of chefs like Anne-Sophie Pic.
The Secret Ingredient: The Cognac Finish
To truly "Parisian-ize" a Speyside scotch, the team made a bold choice. For the first time in this series, they introduced rare Cognac casks into the maturation process.
The final marriage is a complex quartet:
-
American Sherry-Seasoned Oak: For creamy sweetness.
-
European Sherry-Seasoned Oak: For structural depth.
-
Ex-Bourbon Casks: For tropical warmth.
-
Cognac Casks: For that final flourish of French refinement and aromatic spice.
Tasting Notes: A Morning in Montmartre
Bottled at 47.2% ABV, the liquid is a natural golden hue that the distillery has poetically named "Parisian Sunrise."
-
Nose: It opens like a walk past a boulangerie—think almond croissants and fresh brioche—layered with delicate rose perfume and sandalwood.
-
Palate: Decadent and velvety. You’ll find notes of Peach Melba, buttery pastry, and a creamy mille-feuille sweetness.
-
Finish: Long and sophisticated, ending with a touch of toasted oak and soft, warming spices.
A Masterpiece in "Street Yellow"
The packaging is as much a conversation starter as the whisky itself.
-
The Box: The exterior features a sculptural, 3D map of Paris tracing the creators' journey through the city.
-
The Colour: The "Street Yellow" interior is a direct nod to the iconic gas lamps that give the "City of Light" its name.
-
The Art: Inside, you’ll find a stunning gouache illustration by Parisian artist Cassandre Montoriol, depicting a lively table d’hôte scene on a quintessential French street.
The Collector’s Corner
With a retail price of £3,800, this isn't exactly your "daily dram." It is a high-concept artifact designed for the intersection of fine art, haute cuisine, and elite spirits. For those who view whisky as storytelling, the Paris Edition is a masterclass in how to turn a geographic coordinates into a sensory experience.
