The Macallan Achieves Historic Wildlife Conservation Accreditation

The Macallan has officially become the first Scottish distillery to earn the prestigious Wildlife Estates Scotland (WES) accreditation. Widely considered the gold standard for integrated land management, this award recognizes estates that embed biodiversity, conservation, and environmental best practices into their daily operations.

Remarkably, The Macallan Estate achieved the second-highest score ever awarded to a first-time WES applicant.

Championing Biodiversity on a 485-Acre Estate - 

While the expansive Macallan Estate is home to the brand's world-renowned distillery, warehouses, and offices, substantial portions of the land are meticulously managed to support ecological growth. This harmonious balance is driven by the estate's ongoing five-year Ecosystem Restoration Plan.

Key environmental and conservation initiatives include:

• Waterway Restoration

• Habitat Protection

• Wildlife Corridors

• Regenerative Agriculture

The Macallan’s achievement contributes to a wider, national push toward environmental stewardship. The WES initiative continues to see significant year-over-year growth across the country:

• 55 accredited landholdings now exist in Scotland.

• 322,000+ hectares are covered under the accreditation (an area roughly equivalent to 450,000 football pitches).

• 26,500 new hectares have been accredited since January 2025 alone.

Thanks to this continued commitment to land management, Scotland now proudly ranks second out of 19 participating countries for its total area of accredited land.
