Domaine de Montille is one of Burgundy's most respected grower-producers, based in Volnay and farming certified organic and biodynamic vineyards across the Côte de Beaune and Côte de Nuits. Chevalier-Montrachet is a Grand Cru appellation perched on the highest slopes of the legendary Montrachet hill in Puligny-Montrachet, universally regarded as one of the ultimate expressions of Chardonnay.
The Domaine holds a tiny 0.23-hectare parcel here, from which this 2022 Grand Cru is produced entirely from Chardonnay. Farmed biodynamically and vinified with whole-cluster pressing and indigenous yeasts, the wine is matured for around 12 months in French oak (roughly 5–15% new) followed by six months in stainless steel to preserve site purity.
Crystalline pale gold with greenish tints, the nose offers white jasmine, lime blossom, crushed limestone and vine peach, backed by fine toasted oak. The palate balances volume and intensity with laser-like acidity, its satiny texture carrying through to an extraordinarily long, smoky, chalky finish.
Vinous critic Neal Martin rated the 2022 Chevalier-Montrachet in the 96–98 point range as part of his en primeur coverage of the vintage.
