Highland Park distils on the Orkney island of Kirkwall, the northernmost distillery in Scotland, where wind-scoured heather peat and slow, cold maturation combine to produce the house's signature "sweet-smoky" style. Balanced honeyed sweetness, gentle aromatic peat and rich sherried oak have made Highland Park one of the most consistently decorated distilleries in Scotch whisky.
An exceptional rarity, the 2024 release of Highland Park 30 Year Old was created by Master Whisky Maker Gordon Motion from eight casks laid down in 1990, 1991 and 1992 — fewer than 20 casks in total, comprising first-fill European oak sherry, American oak sherry and refill casks. The result is a malt of immense character and grace, natural deep copper in colour.
The nose brings ripe figs, heather honey and toasted oak, developing into a palate of dark chocolate, dried apricot, toasted coconut, sweet almond and nutmeg, set against a backdrop of ancient, floral peat smoke. This collector's dram offers a velvety texture and a finish resonating with spice and dark, autumnal fruit.
