Bowmore is Islay's oldest licensed distillery, founded in 1779 on the shores of Loch Indaal. Its whiskies are matured in the legendary No.1 Vaults, the oldest whisky warehouse in Scotland, which sits partly below sea level and lends Bowmore its distinctive maritime character alongside the distillery's signature gentle peat smoke.
This exquisitely balanced malt has taken its time, and asks that you do the same. Remarkable even by Bowmore's standards, the 25 Year Old is a pairing of hand-selected American oak ex-Bourbon casks and European oak Oloroso Sherry casks, with the process finished in sherry cask, bottled at 43% ABV.
Colour: deep and mellow mahogany, a commanding presence echoing its Oloroso sherry maturation.
Nose: complex notes of rhubarb, dried plums and sultanas, complemented by the sharp, fresh tang of raspberries and creamy vanilla custard.
Palate: confectionery and stone fruits dance on the palate, with soft toffee and hazelnuts.
Finish: sweet smoke, soft toffee and hazelnuts, lingering long.
Awards: Gold, International Spirits Challenge; Double Gold, San Francisco World Spirits Competition.
