Frequently asked questions

What's the difference between single malt and blended whisky?
Single malt whisky is made at a single distillery using only malted barley. Blended whisky combines whiskies from multiple distilleries, often mixing malt and grain whisky, to achieve a consistent house style.

Does whisky get better with age in the bottle?
No — once bottled, whisky stops maturing. Ageing only happens in the cask. A bottle stored correctly will taste essentially the same whether opened this year or in twenty years.

What does "cask strength" mean?
Cask strength whisky is bottled without dilution, at (or close to) the strength it reaches naturally in the cask — typically 50-65%+ ABV, versus 40-46% for standard bottlings.

How should I store an opened bottle of whisky?
Store it upright, away from direct sunlight and heat, with the cap sealed tightly. Unlike wine, whisky should not be stored on its side, as prolonged contact between spirit and cork can degrade the seal.
