Suntory's Hakushu Distillery sits deep in the forested Southern Japanese Alps of Yamanashi Prefecture, drawing on pure mountain water and a cool, misty climate to shape a single malt known for its crisp, green, forest-fresh character — a distinct counterpoint to the richer, more classically Scotch-influenced style of Suntory's Yamazaki distillery.

Hakushu 12 Year Old is matured for a minimum of 12 years across a combination of American oak, sherry and Mizunara (Japanese oak) casks. American oak contributes vanilla and honeyed sweetness, sherry casks bring dried fruit richness and spice, and the rare Mizunara oak lends delicate sandalwood and incense notes.

Nose: fresh green apple, pear and citrus zest with gentle smoke, mint and pine, and a touch of honey. Palate: orchard fruit, lemon and malt sweetness with a whisper of peat smoke, vanilla and green tea. Finish: long, crisp and clean, with lingering citrus, delicate smoke and a subtle sandalwood spiciness from the Mizunara oak.
