Sandeman is one of the great historic Port shippers, founded in 1790 and based in Vila Nova de Gaia in Portugal's Douro Valley. The house's Aged Tawny range is among the most respected in the category, built on decades of patient cask ageing and meticulous blending.
The 50-Year-Old Tawny is the pinnacle of that range, crafted by Head Winemaker Luís Sottomayor from a selection of rare old casks, some aged up to 70 years, drawn from a blend of traditional Douro varieties including Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz, Touriga Franca, Tinta Barroca and Tinto Cão. It is a non-vintage release, presented in an exclusive wooden gift box.
Deep golden-amber with olive-greenish highlights, the nose is richly complex with roasted walnuts, toffee, dried figs and orange peel, alongside cedarwood, cigar box and warm spice. As a fully-aged Tawny, the palate is rich and sweet, balancing velvety concentration with fresh acidity — layers of candied fruit, caramel and toasted nuts lingering through a remarkably long finish.
