Poderi Aldo Conterno is one of Barolo's most revered estates, based in Monforte d'Alba in the Langhe hills of Piedmont. Cicala is a single vineyard within the estate's Bussia holdings, distinguished by higher clay and iron content in its calcareous soils, which give it a reputation as the most structured and powerful of the estate's crus.
The 2021 vintage is produced entirely from Nebbiolo (principally the Lampia clone), hand-harvested in mid-October from vines averaging 40–45 years old. Following 30 days of skin-contact fermentation in stainless steel, the wine is aged for 26–28 months in large Slavonian oak casks before further refinement in bottle.
Deep ruby-garnet in the glass, the nose is intense and multifaceted with dark cherries, ripe raspberries and Parma violets, intertwined with iron, gravel and dried herbs. The full-bodied, velvet-like palate is balanced by firm, fine-grained tannins and driving acidity, with a long, kaleidoscopic finish of mineral salinity and dark fruit.
This wine is sold as a case of 6 bottles.
