Ron Zacapa is produced in Guatemala by Industrias Licoreras de Guatemala, matured in a facility high in the Guatemalan highlands - nicknamed the "House Above the Clouds" at around 2,300 metres altitude - where the cool climate slows evaporation and ageing for an unusually smooth result.
Zacapa 23 (No.23) is a blend of rums aged between 6 and 23 years using the Solera system, finished in a combination of casks that previously held American whiskey, sherry and Pedro Ximénez wine.
Tasting notes - Nose: caramel, honeyed butterscotch and sweet molasses. Palate: spiced oak, rich vanilla, raisin fruits and gentle nutmeg. Finish: long-lasting, with toasted hazelnut and a mild hint of smoke.
