2018 Beaune 1er Cru `Les Grèves`, Domaine de Montille, Burgundy, France

Domaine de Montille is one of Burgundy's most acclaimed grower estates, farming across the Côte de Beaune and Côte de Nuits with a biodynamic philosophy under Étienne de Montille. The domaine's Beaune 1er Cru holdings reflect its precise, terroir-focused winemaking.

The 2018 vintage of Les Grèves 1er Cru began with a cold, humid winter before temperatures rose above 30°C in spring, pushing rapid vine growth. Harvest started on 23 August and lasted three weeks; biodynamic practices helped the vines cope with the heat, resulting in wines with a fine balance between alcohol and freshness.

The wine has a lovely bouquet of red berry fruit laced with slate and bay leaf aromas. The palate is well balanced, with a mineral-rich entry, a fine bead of acidity and touches of brown spice sprinkled over the red fruit. The stony, terse finish shows real potential for ageing.
