Massolino Barolo Riserva `Vigna Rionda` 2017 (75cl)

Massolino is a family-run estate based in Serralunga d'Alba, farming some of the most prized vineyard sites in the Barolo zone since 1896. Vigna Rionda is widely considered one of the holy grails of Nebbiolo, celebrated for producing Barolos of unmatched power, depth and longevity.

Massolino's flagship Riserva from this legendary site is made entirely from Nebbiolo, farmed sustainably from vines up to 50 years old. The wine undergoes traditional long fermentation and maceration before an extended élevage of around 36–42 months in large Slavonian oak barrels plus a further 24 months in bottle, released only in its sixth year following harvest.

In the warm 2017 vintage, the wine shows a deep garnet-ruby colour with a complex nose of sweet red cherries, raspberries and kirsch, accented by dried rose petals, blood orange and liquorice. The palate has monumental structure — dense, fine-grained tannins and bright acidity cradle a concentrated fruit core through to an exceptionally long, mineral, spice-laden finish.

The 2017 Vigna Rionda Riserva was rated 97 points by Robert Parker's Wine Advocate and 96 points by Decanter.
