2020 Gevrey-Chambertin, Domaine du Château Philippe le Hardi, Burgundy, France

Domaine du Château Philippe le Hardi farms vineyards across the Côte de Nuits, producing Pinot Noir that reflects the individual character of each appellation the estate holds vines in.

This Gevrey-Chambertin is 100% Pinot Noir. 2020 was an incredibly hot vintage in the Côte d'Or, with a mild winter, early budburst and a drought-affected summer bringing early véraison; end-of-season storms relieved some of the stress, producing good-quality grapes with surprising freshness given the heat.

Deep garnet in colour, the wine shows fresh and ripe strawberry, wild blueberry and redcurrant on the nose, with notes of lavender and loamy earth. The palate has good structure typical of the appellation, with ripe red fruit, undergrowth and spice, well suited to red meat, game and aged cheese.
