2022 Chateau de Beaucastel Chateauneuf-du-Pape, France

Château de Beaucastel, farmed by the Perrin family, is one of Châteauneuf-du-Pape's most celebrated estates, renowned for using all 13 permitted grape varieties and for a Mourvèdre-forward house style built on organic and biodynamic farming.

The 2022 vintage is a blend led by Mourvèdre and Grenache, with Counoise, Cinsault, Terret Noir, Muscardin and Vaccarèse, alongside a small proportion of white varieties including Roussanne and Clairette, matured entirely in foudre.

The wine presents a deep, glass-staining black-ruby hue. The nose is bold and expressive, offering layers of cedar, charcoal, balsamic notes, black cherry and a hint of oil. On the palate, the powerful, textured mouthfeel of Mourvèdre gives way to an explosion of vibrant primary fruit, rich kirsch and cassis liqueur, with finely integrated tannins that are firmly structured yet never overpowering. The finish is heady, remarkably long and smooth.
