2022 Marlborough Pinot Noir, Greywacke, New Zealand

Greywacke is the label of Kevin Judd, former founding winemaker of Cloudy Bay and one of Marlborough's most respected names, producing precise, terroir-driven wines from the region's finest sites.

The 2022 Marlborough Pinot Noir followed a wet growing season — a stark contrast to the dry 2021 vintage — with heavy rain from ex-tropical cyclone Dovi in February. Cooler temperatures and southerly breezes limited disease pressure, allowing the grapes to ripen successfully into a harvest of excellent quality.

Deliciously fragrant, the wine is packed with blackberries and kola nut, intermingled with rose petal and woodsmoke. Medium-bodied and bright on the palate, it layers black liquorice, plum pudding and allspice, with silky tannins and earthy tones leading to a lingering, beguiling finish.
