2024 Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc, Greywacke, New Zealand

Greywacke is the label of Kevin Judd, former long-serving winemaker at Cloudy Bay, who founded his own Marlborough estate in 2009 to continue pushing the boundaries of New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc.

The 2024 Sauvignon Blanc followed a relatively dry winter and an unsettled spring with isolated frosts that disrupted flowering and reduced yields; a hot, dry El Niño summer, to the point of drought by mid-March, further concentrated berries, while cooler February nights stretched out ripening for wonderfully crisp acidity.

Deliciously aromatic with honeydew melon and orange blossom infused with herb botanicals, it shows juicy lemon and steely cassis flavours on a generously textured, structured palate with a flourish of pastis and wildflowers.

Robert Parker and Wine Spectator both scored the 2024 vintage 93 points; James Suckling and Wine Enthusiast rated it 92 points.
