Florio is Sicily's oldest and most celebrated Marsala house, founded in 1833 in the town of Marsala on the island's western coast. Vergine is the driest and most traditional classification in the Marsala DOC, made without the addition of mistella or cooked must and matured for years in oak to develop its distinctive savoury character.

This VR0504 bottling is a 2004 vintage Marsala Vergine, produced entirely from Grillo grapes grown in western Sicily. Following traditional Vergine methods, the wine is fortified with grape spirit alone and aged for an extended period in large oak casks, allowing its natural complexity to develop without any added sweetness.

Complex aromas of roasted almonds, hazelnuts, dried citrus peel, tobacco and oak lead into a bone-dry, refined palate of toasted walnuts, orange zest and caramelised nuts, with crisp acidity carrying through to a long, saline, mineral finish.

Region: Sicily, Italy  |  Grape: Grillo  |  Vintage: 2004  |  ABV: 19%  |  Size: 750ml
