Highland Park distils on the Orkney island of Kirkwall, the northernmost distillery in Scotland, where wind-scoured heather peat and slow, cold maturation combine to produce the house's signature "sweet-smoky" style. Balanced honeyed sweetness, gentle aromatic peat and rich sherried oak have made Highland Park one of the most consistently decorated distilleries in Scotch whisky.
Cask Strength Release No. 4 experiences Orkney whisky in its purest, most untamed form, bottled straight from the cask at a massive 64.3% ABV. The spirit spent 14 years maturing predominantly in first-fill, sherry-seasoned European and American oak, alongside selected refill and ex-bourbon casks — and, for the first time in the series' history, a small quantity of ex-port casks.
The nose opens with crushed lemon, toasted coconut and cedarwood, wrapped in Turkish Delight-tinged peat smoke. The palate delivers zesty pink grapefruit, fragrant rose water and rich dark chocolate, before a long, warming finish of sun-baked spice and liquorice. Bottled with no added colour and no chill-filtration, it rewards a few drops of water to unlock its deeper floral and smoky notes.
