Situated in the heart of Monforte d’Alba, the famed Cicala vineyard in Bussia is renowned for producing the most structured, tannic, and powerful Barolo in Poderi Aldo Conterno’s iconic lineup. Marked by a higher clay and iron content in its calcareous soils, Cicala contrasts with its neighboring crus by delivering exceptional depth, muscular tension, and extraordinary cellaring potential.
The benchmark 2021 vintage showcases Cicala at its finest—rich, expressive, and exquisitely balanced. In the glass, it presents a deep ruby-garnet color. The nose opens with an intense, multifaceted bouquet of dark cherries, ripe raspberries, and Parma violets, intertwined with earthy nuances of iron, gravel, incense, sweet spices, and dried herbs. On the palate, it exhibits a full-bodied, velvet-like texture balanced by firm, fine-grained tannins and vibrant, driving acidity. The long, kaleidoscopic finish lingers on mineral saltiness, graphite, and dark fruit.
Aged traditionally in large Slavonian oak barrels, the 2021 Cicala is a classic, age-worthy Barolo built for long cellar evolution.
