The 2018 Brut Vintage is 60% Pinot Noir and 40% Chardonnay, sourced from 20 Grand and Premier Cru vineyards across the Montagne de Reims and the Côte des Blancs. The must is settled twice, then fermented slowly and cool in stainless steel, with each variety and village kept separate, before full malolactic fermentation. The second fermentation takes place in bottle in Pol Roger's deepest cellars, 33 metres below Épernay, where the wine is riddled by hand — a rarity in Champagne today — and rests on its lees for around six years before disgorgement with a dosage of around 7 g/l.
Lovely now and set to evolve gracefully to around 2040.
Presented in magnum (1.5L), the format in which Champagne ages most slowly and gracefully, this is the ultimate showpiece bottle for parties, celebrations and corporate events — or a superb addition to the cellar.
Critical acclaim (2018 Brut Vintage): Jeb Dunnuck 94/100, James Suckling 94/100, Wine Spectator 93/100, Vinous 93/100, Decanter 93/100, Wine Advocate 93/100.
