Proprietà Sperino is a leading estate of the Alto Piemonte revival, farming a single vineyard in the small Lessona DOC. Vigna Covà is the estate's flagship wine, made entirely from Nebbiolo grown on a south-west facing hillside at 350 metres above sea level, where ancient marine sands and mineral-rich volcanic soils bring remarkable finesse and freshness.
The 2015 vintage, from a warm, dry growing season, was fermented with indigenous yeasts in open-top wooden vats with a 28-day maceration, then matured for 36 months in large, seasoned French oak casks followed by a further two years in bottle before release.
The nose is fragrant with raspberry, cranberry and wild cherry, layered with liquorice, dried herbs and rose petal. The palate is silky and refined, with dark cherry, blackberry, clove and earthy minerality supported by beautifully integrated tannins, finishing long and persistent with vibrant acidity and crushed stone.
The 2015 Vigna Covà was rated 96 points by Antonio Galloni for Vinous and 95 points by Decanter, cementing its status as one of the finest expressions of Lessona ever produced.
