St Magdalene 1982 40 Year Old Recollection Series

St Magdalene was a Lowland single malt distillery in Linlithgow, near Edinburgh, tracing its roots back to at least 1798. Renowned for a distinctive, subtly oily and grassy character with a faint wisp of smoke, it fell victim to the industry downturn of the 1980s and closed for good in 1983 — one of more than twenty distilleries lost that decade. Whisky from St Magdalene is now exceptionally rare and increasingly sought after by collectors of Scotland’s lost distilleries.

This 40 Year Old was distilled in 1982 and matured in refill American hogshead #2100, bottled by independent bottler Gordon & MacPhail in 2023 as part of their Private Collection Recollection Series, which showcases rare single casks from closed Scottish distilleries. Just 150 bottles were produced, bottled at cask strength and presented in a beautiful oak case — a must for any serious whisky collector.
