About this bottle

Tomatin sits high in the Monadhliath foothills, about 16 miles south of Inverness. It was founded in 1897, and by the 1970s and 80s it had grown into the largest malt distillery in Scotland. Today it is known as the softer side of the Highlands, thanks to a gentle, fruit-led house style shaped by soft water from the Allt na Frìthe burn and carefully chosen casks.

Added to the core range in 2014, the 14 Year Old was Tomatin's first whisky finished in port wood. It spends most of its life in ex-bourbon barrels, which build a base of vanilla, honey and orchard fruit. It is then moved into Tawny Port pipes that had previously held port for around 50 years. It is bottled at 46% ABV.

Lovely neat, and a few drops of water bring out pastry and jammy notes.

Big fan of Tomatin but haven't tried their port cask bottle before. Saw it online at a great price so took a chance and glad I did! Lots of berry and caramel from the port cask, followed by some of the orchard fruit that comes from the bourbon cask.
