What is the Glenfarclas Decanter Series?
Glenfarclas has been owned and run by the Grant family since 1865, making it one of the very few Scotch distilleries still in independent family hands. To mark five generations of the family, the distillery committed to one unusual release a year for five years, each presented in a Glencairn crystal decanter.

Why the 15 Year Old?
John Grant, fifth-generation owner and Chairman of Glenfarclas, has never hidden the fact that the 15 Year Old is his favourite expression in the core range. Ending the series with a single-cask, full-strength version of it is a very personal choice.
Where the core 15 Year Old is a vatting of many casks bottled at 46%, this is one cask, untouched. It was distilled on 11 April 2011, filled into a first fill Oloroso sherry butt, and left for a full 15 years before bottling on 30 June 2026. There's no added colour and no reduction: it was bottled at its natural cask strength of 60% ABV.
What does 105 British Proof mean?
Before ABV became the standard, Britain measured spirit strength in "proof". 100° British proof equals 57.15% ABV, so a whisky at 60% ABV is 105° proof. Glenfarclas already has a long history with the number: its Glenfarclas 105 was one of the first cask-strength single malts on the market when it was introduced in 1968. This decanter brings that idea to a single 15-year-old sherry butt.
Glenfarclas 15 Year Old 105 Decanter tasting notes
- Nose: Rich raspberries, oranges and tangerines, with deeper aromas of dark chocolate, brown sugar and sherry-soaked oak.
- Palate: Powerful and robust on the front of the tongue. Creamy and oily, with an aftertaste of dates, pecan nuts and caramelised apples.
- Finish: Extremely long and powerful. Hints of liquorice and black pepper spice, a touch of cocoa and sweet sherried Seville oranges.
In short, it's an uncompromising sherry bomb. At 60% it rewards a few drops of water, which opens up the fruit and softens the spice.
