  • Proper Bostin' News: Welcoming Midland Press to the Family

    Sep 11, 2026

There is something truly special about seeing a fellow local business break new ground, which is why we are incredibly proud to announce the newest addition to our portfolio: Midland Press.

As a proudly Birmingham-based company ourselves, we are always looking for partners who share our passion for pushing boundaries while staying rooted in our city’s rich heritage. Midland Press represents exactly that a distinctly Brummie craft success story that is putting English winemaking on the map, right from the heart of the city.

    Birmingham’s First Urban Winery

When you think of English vineyards, you might picture the rolling hills of the countryside. But Midland Press has brought the art of winemaking directly into Birmingham city centre.

Founded in 2024 by local winemaker Richard Stenton, Midland Press operates out of an atmospheric, temperature-stable Victorian railway arch at 17 Shaw’s Passage. This unique, cave-like environment provides the perfect natural conditions for fermenting, aging, and storing their exceptional small-batch wines.

What makes their approach stand out:

    • Locally Sourced Grapes: They partner with pioneering growers across the middle of England, bringing the best cool-climate grapes right into the city centre.

    • Minimal Intervention: All of their wines are fermented in barrels or small tanks, aged on the lees, and hand-blended. They bottle everything in-house, unfined and unfiltered by hand.

    • Signature Varietals: Their focus on expressive Pinot Noir, textured Pinot Blanc, and heritage hybrid varieties perfectly captures the shifting landscape of modern British viticulture.

    • Local Identity: Even their label designs pay homage to Birmingham’s iconic brutalist architecture.

    A Shared Brummie Ethos

Bringing Midland Press into our portfolio wasn't just a business decision; it was a natural alignment of values. We are immensely proud of our Birmingham roots, and seeing an independent boutique winery transform exceptional regional ingredients right on our doorstep is exactly the kind of innovation we want to champion.

Whether it is their vibrant light reds or their textured, lees-driven whites, Midland Press is creating wines that are already featuring at the finest dining tables and boutique bars throughout Birmingham. We are thrilled to support their journey and help them share their craft even further afield.

Welcome to the portfolio, Midland Press. We couldn't be prouder to have you on board.

Want to see what they’re pouring? By heading over to our website. THANKS BAB!
